Mosques Should Be Place For Muslims To Unite

KOTA BHARU, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The role of mosques in the country should be strengthened as Muslim unity zones, said a deputy minister today.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said places of worship should be free from any political influence.

"We may have different political views, but let's leave it outside the mosque. Mosques should be centres of excellence and unity for Muslims, and not just a place of worship," he told reporters at the Federal Government's one off contribution to mosque officers in Kelantan at the Muhammadi Mosque here, today.

Also present were Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) deputy president Nik Mohd Azlan Abd Hadi and Kelantan Federal Development Department director Datuk Yahya Mamat.

A total of RM11.7 million was allocated for the special payment to 2,571 imams and other mosque officials, besides 5,251 Quran and Fardu Ain (Kafa) class teachers in Kelantan for this year, with the initial payment of RM1,000 per person made today, while the remainder will be given before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.....
