KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry plans to add lanes along several stretches of the North-South Expressway to cater to the increase in the number of vehicles and reduce congestion, said Deputy Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi.
He said the ministry was looking into the possibility of adding one of two lanes at the congested stretches before tabling a proposal to the government.
"Several stretches have been identified, one of them being the Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam stretch," he said at a press conference after launching the road safety campaign in conjunction with the Chinese New Year for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur here today.
He also said that the additional lanes, as well as an improved railway system in the future, would provide the people with quality travel and comfort.
Ab Aziz said the ministry had also identified several stretches of road in the risk category for upgrading to reduce accidents. — Bernama
