PETALING JAYA: PLUS Malaysia Berhad (Plus) is anticipating some 1.6 million vehicles to ply the North-South Expressway (NSE) during the Chinese New Year festive season next week.

As such, Plus managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said that the highway concessionaire have put in place several strategies to ease the anticipated high traffic volume so that highway users can enjoy a smooth and convenient journey.

"Among the strategies we have put in place includes 20% toll rebate on non-peak days for PLUSMiles and Plus registered Touch 'n Go users, travel time advisory for those leaving and coming back to the city centre, temporary closure of reload lanes at toll plazas and having more Plus emergency response personnel on duty throughout the festive period," Azman said during a media briefing on their strategies in coping with high traffic volume for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration at Persada PLUS today.

According to Azman, traffic volume is expected to reach its peak on Feb 14, 15, 18, 19, 25 and 26 during which there will be around 1.6 million vehicles plying the NSE.

"The route between Rawang and Simpang Pulai will be the one recording the highest increase which is between 127 percent to 145 percent as people travel back to their hometowns to celebrate the festival.

"As for the 'Balik Kerja' journey, we are expecting traffic to be heavy along Alor Setar - Sungai Dua, Jawi - Kuala Kangsar, Simpang Pulai - Slim River, Sungkai - Bukit Beruntung, Bukit Beruntung - Rawang, Seremban - Nilai, Ayer Keroh - Senawang, Yong Peng - Tangkak and Ayer Hitam - Pagoh routes," Azman said.

Therefore, to avoid being stuck in heavy congestion, Azman said Plus is issuing a Travel Time Advisory (TTA) to help the public to plan their journey.
