IPOH: One of fifteen people injured in a three-heavy vehicle accident near Gopeng on Wednesday has died.
The deceased has been identified as express bus passenger Chan Kwai Fah, 43, from Taman Desa Cempaka here. She was confirmed dead at about 8.11am while receiving treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB).
In the incident yesterday, an express bus collided with two lorries at Km294.7 of the North-South Expressway (NSE).
The 5.45am accident occurred when the bus, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh, collided with a container lorry and a trailer truck transporting a consignment of paper.
The bus driver, 12 bus passengers and the trailer truck driver sustained light to severe injuries; while the container lorry driver was seriously injured and remains unconscious at HRPB,” Kampar district police chief Supt Ng Kong Soon said in a statement here.
“Initial investigations reveal that the express bus hit the back of the trailer truck, before being bumped from behind by the container lorry which couldn’t stop in time,” he added.
Ng said the vehicles were taken to the Gopeng Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) for further inspection.
The 41-year-old express bus driver was detained to assist in an investigation into the case under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987. -- Bernama
