PMBOA Appeals To Govt To Abolish Fixed Express Bus Fare
MELAKA, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- The Pan Malaysian Bus Operators Association (PMBOA)) appealed to the government to abolish the fixed express bus fares to help operators provide better services besides ensuring the country\'s bus industry to continue to grow.
PMBOA president Datuk Mohamad Ashfar Ali said bus operators should be allowed to charge commuters with more flexible fares to their services in line with current needs as well as to give the best service.
"The bus fare was last fixed in May 2013 at 9.3 cents per kilometre and we have repeatedly appealed to the government to look into this matter but until now no positive response yet.
"The deregulation of bus fares is important today as it not only helps operators to continue their business but at the same time commuters are able to enjoy better services," he told a news conference here today.
He also said that bus operators constantly faced rising operating costs following the increase in employee salaries, fuel, spare parts, tolls and the installation of various security tools on the bus, apart from some privatised bus terminals in Melaka and Johor that imposed charges on bus operators for each bus entering those terminals.....
